Attitude of Graditude: How to Give and Receive Joy Every Day of Your Life
By M.J.Ryan
“Gratitude eradicates worry. You cannot be grateful and unhappy at the same time.”
The longer I stay sober, the more I see this, feel it in my heart. Before recovery, I was a miserable person. I was so unhappy, full of resentment, anger, and shame. The very idea of gratitude was foreign to me! What did a person like myself have to be grateful for? Turns out, a whole lot of things!
The amazing thing is, the more I changed my thinking and my attitude, the more gratitude began to replace all those negative feelings in my heart; and the happier I became!
Today, gratitude is one of my biggest tools. It helps me to stay in today, sometimes, just staying in the moment. I know today that I don’t have any control over the future, and when I focus on the here and now I find that I worry less about what may… or may not happen.
Life is short and tomorrow is promised to no one. Appreciate what you have today – tomorrow it may be gone.
